Overview
IGF-1 LR3 is a modified analog of insulin-like growth factor 1, engineered with an extra 13 amino acids at the N-terminus and an arginine substitution at position 3, which together dramatically reduce its binding affinity for IGF-binding proteins and extend its research half-life relative to native IGF-1.
Mechanism & Research Findings
By escaping sequestration by IGF-binding proteins, IGF-1 LR3 maintains substantially higher bioavailability in circulation, allowing sustained activation of the IGF-1 receptor (IGF-1R) and downstream PI3K/Akt/mTOR signaling — the central pathway governing protein synthesis and cell growth. It is a foundational reference compound in satellite-cell activation and skeletal-muscle hypertrophy research, as well as broader studies of the growth hormone/IGF-1 axis.
Research Applications
- IGF-1R / PI3K-Akt-mTOR signaling research
- Satellite-cell activation and muscle-hypertrophy studies
- IGF-binding protein interaction pharmacokinetics
