Overview
HCG is a glycoprotein hormone naturally produced during pregnancy, widely used in reproductive endocrinology research due to its structural and functional similarity to luteinizing hormone (LH).
Mechanism & Research Findings
HCG binds the LH/hCG receptor, mimicking the LH surge that triggers ovulation in females and stimulates Leydig cell testosterone production in males. Its long research half-life relative to native LH (owing to a unique beta-subunit carboxy-terminal extension) makes it a standard tool in HPG-axis research for sustained LH-receptor activation studies, fertility-pathway research, and steroidogenesis modeling in gonadal tissue.
Research Applications
- LH receptor activation and steroidogenesis research
- HPG-axis and fertility-pathway studies
- Gonadal tissue function models
For laboratory research use only. Not for human consumption, diagnostic, or therapeutic use.
