Overview
Epithalon is a synthetic tetrapeptide analog of Epithalamin, a natural pineal gland extract studied extensively in Russian longevity research since the late 20th century. It is one of the most-cited compounds in telomerase-activation literature.
Mechanism & Research Findings
Epithalon has been studied for its ability to upregulate telomerase activity in certain somatic cell lines, a mechanism proposed to support telomere length maintenance across cell division cycles in vitro. Separately, animal studies have examined Epithalon’s role in restoring pineal gland melatonin secretion rhythm in aged rodent models, positioning it as a compound of interest in both cellular-senescence and circadian-rhythm research programs.
Research Applications
- Telomerase activity and cellular senescence research
- Pineal gland / melatonin rhythm studies in aging models
- Comparative longevity-peptide research
