Overview
DSIP is a naturally occurring neuropeptide first isolated from rabbit cerebral venous blood, extensively studied for its association with delta-wave (slow-wave) sleep architecture and neuroendocrine stress regulation.
Mechanism & Research Findings
DSIP’s exact receptor target remains an active area of investigation, but research has associated it with modulation of the HPA axis (attenuating stress-induced cortisol/ACTH release) and with increased delta-wave EEG activity in animal sleep studies. It is frequently used as a tool compound in circadian-rhythm and stress-hormone research, particularly in models examining the interplay between sleep architecture and cortisol regulation.
Research Applications
- Delta-wave sleep architecture / EEG research
- HPA-axis and stress-hormone modulation studies
- Circadian-rhythm regulation models
