Overview
Dilute acetic acid solution is used in peptide research laboratories as a reconstitution and stabilization diluent for peptides that are unstable or poorly soluble in neutral-pH aqueous solutions, particularly certain growth-factor and larger polypeptide compounds.
Mechanism & Research Findings
Many peptides, especially larger or more hydrophobic sequences (such as IGF-1 analogs), have improved solubility and reduced aggregation in mildly acidic solution compared to neutral bacteriostatic water. Diluted acetic acid is a standard reference solvent used in peptide-formulation research to evaluate pH-dependent solubility and stability profiles, and is frequently paired with a carrier protein (such as BSA) for peptides requiring additional stabilization in solution.
Research Applications
- pH-dependent peptide solubility and formulation research
- Reconstitution of acid-stable / hydrophobic peptide compounds
For laboratory research use only.
