Overview
Sermorelin is the truncated 29-amino-acid active fragment of native human GHRH, retaining full biological activity of the parent 44-amino-acid hormone. It is one of the earliest and most well-characterized GHRH analogs in the scientific literature.
Mechanism & Research Findings
Sermorelin binds the pituitary GHRH receptor and activates the same cAMP-mediated pathway as endogenous GHRH, stimulating synthesis and release of growth hormone. Because it is structurally close to the native hormone, it has served as the reference compound against which longer-acting synthetic analogs (like CJC-1295) are benchmarked in pharmacokinetic and receptor-binding studies. Its short research half-life makes it particularly useful for studying acute, physiologic-pattern GH pulses.
Research Applications
- Reference-standard GHRH receptor studies
- Acute pulsatile GH-release modeling
- Comparative pharmacokinetics vs. long-acting GHRH analogs
For laboratory research use only. Not for human consumption, diagnostic, or therapeutic use.
